Borderline Productions Ltd is a production company based in Co. Down, Northern Ireland producing feature films, shorts and documentaries. We also provide a production services such as financial control, editing and camera facilities.
Since its formation in 2004, we have fast become one of Northern Ireland’s leading film and television companies. We have produced two feature films – Johnny Was (2004) starring Vinnie Jones, Patrick Bergin, Eric Le Salle and Samantha Mumba and The Bird Can’t Fly (2006) starring Barbara Hershey. The Bird Can’t Fly won the Special Jury Award at the Sofia Film Festival and Best New Director at the Dutch Film Days. We have also produced the feature length documentary Queering the Pitch (2007) and a number of shorts including 20 or 22, Squaddie, Rick’s Head and Pretty Face.
Borderline is the first Northern Ireland company to receive MEDIA Slate financing for a slate of five drama projects. These projects are being developed with funders the Irish Film Board and/or Northern Ireland Screen.
We are nearing delivery on Occi Versus The World, a feature film by award winning writer/director Conor McDermottroe starring Jodie Whittaker and Martin McCann. This is a co-production with Zanzibar Films (Ireland) and Florin Films (Germany).
Continuing our strategic alliance announced Summer 2008 with Zanzibar Films Dublin, other co productions which are in financing stage are It Takes Three to Tango by award winning writer/director Audrey O’Reilly starring Martine McCutcheon, and The Straits by Johnny Gogan and Jo O’Byrne starring Omar Sharif.
We are currently in post production on several documentaries including, Out in Africa, a contemporary gay love story set in South Africa, Show Me the Mummy a TV documentary for BBC, Circus Born a “Documenting the Arts” project for the Irish Film Board and Arts Council of Ireland. We are also exec-ing Malin Andersons (Belfast Girls) new 3 part TV documentary “Country Girls” for ILBF and TG4 and production is underway on Rats to the Rescue a feature length documentary about the unlikeliest hero in the battle against landmines, the Giant African Pouch Rat.
Borderline’s current producers are founder Tom Maguire and Academy Award Nominee Tamara Anghie.
Tom Maguire started his film and television career in 1990 in Germany and soon turned to a freelance career as a production accountant. He worked on nine feature films including, Borstal Boy for Hells Kitchen, Thomas Vinterberg’s Danish feature It’s All about Love as well as five TV series. He then moved into producing and has produced seven short films, three feature films, a feature documentary and two stage plays. Tom is a graduate of Reading University and has completed EAVE in 2000, the Film Business School in 2004 and Screen Training Ireland’s Screen Leaders Course in 2005.
Tamara Anghie is an Academy Award Nominated producer for her short film New Boy which has won over fifteen awards including a Special Mention at the Berlinale 2008 and Best Narrative Short at the Tribeca Film Festival 2008 and an IFTA. She has been working in the film and new media industries for the past 17 years after completing a Degree in Film & Media Studies in Melbourne, Australia. She has worked in various production capacities on TV commercials, corporates and documentaries in Australia, South-East Asia and Europe. Tamara also spent 6 successful years working in the new media and computer games industries producing award-winning projects for Flagtower Publishing, UK and Sony Psygnosis Computer Games, UK. She returned to film making when she moved to Ireland in 2000 and has been involved with documentary, short film, television and feature film production. She has produced several award winning shorts and recently was Associate Producer on the Portugese/Irish/UK/Brazilian/Spanish feature film DotCom and on Macdara Vallely’s debut feature Peacefire. Tamara graduated from the EAVE programme 2004 and completed the MEDIA Film Business School in 2006.
